nique and the patient’s enlarged heart geometry.5,6 In addition, echocardiography is not a monitoring device. Right heart catheterization (RHC) is a direct measurement of hemodynamic parameters7 and is a reliable tool for evaluating hemodynamic changes in PH patients. However, the frequent use of RHC is also limited by its invasiveness, infection risk, and expense.8 Therefore, a noninvasive technique for monitoring CO is needed to help manage PH patients. This editorial provides an overview of the major methods for measuring CO, and discusses the usefulness of noninvasive CO measurement in patients with PH.

Evaluation of Growth Status in Children with Congenital Heart Disease: A Case- Control Study
Background: Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) are prone to malnutrition and growth retardation. This study aimed to compare growth status between children with CHD and healthy children. Materials and Methods: This case–control study included 310 children with CHD and 300 healthy children matched in age and gender. CHD patients grouped according to cardiac diagnosis: ...
متن کاملHemodynamic Effects of Noninvasive Ventilation in Patients with Venocapillary Pulmonary Hypertension
Background: The hemodynamic effects of noninvasive ventilation with positive pressure in patients with pulmonary hypertension without left ventricular dysfunction are not clearly established. Objectives: Analyze the impact of increasing airway pressure with continuous positive airway pressure on hemodynamic parameters and, in particular, on cardiac output in patients with variable degrees of pu...
متن کاملEvaluation of Pulmonary Hypertension In First Degree Relatives Of Patients With Primary Pulmonary Hypertension
Background: Pulmonary hypertension (PH) was defined for the first time in 1951 as primary pulmonary hypertension (PPH). Some studies emphasized on the role of genetics in the development of pulmonary hypertension in family members of affected patients. So, in this study we evaluated the prevalence of pulmonary hypertension in first degree family of patients with documented PPH. Methods: In thi...
متن کاملRole of Transthoracic Echocardiography in the Evaluation of Patients with Retinal Vein Occlusion
Introduction: Retinal vein occlusion is a common vascular disorder disrupting vision. Two basic types of RVO are branch retinal vein occlusion and central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO). Retinal vein occlusion is a multifactor process including systemic illness and local retinal factors.RVO may be associated with atherosclerotic risk factors. We analyzed the role of 2 dimensional transthor...
متن کاملPulmonary artery distensibility in pulmonary arterial hypertension: an MRI pilot study.
Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a disease of the small vessels in which there is a substantial increase in pulmonary vascular resistance leading to right ventricle failure and death. Invasive haemodynamic evaluation is mandatory not only for diagnosis confirmation but also to address prognosis and eligibility for the use of calcium-channel blockers through an acute vasodilator challeng...
